A pencil illustration on textured paper, almost entirely solid black, with thick charcoal and dense graphite covering about 80 percent of the page in deep darkness, spooky storybook style. A violent storm at sea on a pitch-black night, with towering black waves and sheets of slanting rain. A thin break in the heavy storm clouds lets a single shaft of pale moonlight fall onto a small wooden sailing ship tossed high on the crest of a huge wave, its torn sails flapping. On the deck, a soaked anthro male black rat captain in an oversized yellow raincoat clings to the ship's wheel with both paws, his whiskers blown flat, looking completely fed up. Next to him, a tiny anthro mouse first mate in a matching yellow raincoat calmly holds a little umbrella over the captain's head, which has blown inside out. Out in the black water beside the ship, a giant sea serpent's head rises from the waves with glowing eyes. The only color in the image is the pale silver-blue moonlight on the ship and the bright yellow of the two raincoats. Everything else is heavy black charcoal with the waves and clouds barely visible in the darkness.
